BMI Formula & Explanation
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measure based on height and weight, used as an indicator of body fat in adult men and women. The standard formula is:
BMI is a screening tool used to indicate whether someone is underweight, at a healthy weight, overweight, or obese. A BMI outside the healthy range may indicate significantly increased health risks.
Calculation Example
Suppose your weight is 70kg and your height is 170cm (1.7m):
- Step 1: Multiply your height by itself: 1.7m × 1.7m = 2.89
- Step 2: Divide your weight by the result: 70 / 2.89 = 24.2
- Result: Your BMI is 24.2 (Normal range according to WHO).
